Board Members are Volunteers

No Volunteer Board Members?
What would happen if no one was willing to volunteer to serve on the board for an association? In all likelihood, court action would be necessary and result in a judge appointing a Receiver. This Receiver would establish the budget, hire the contractors, enforce the rules, and generally administer the property. Court-appointed Receivers are often attorneys and because receivership’s require court supervision, the Receiver is generally well paid, often times in amounts equaling or exceeding hourly rates for legal professionals.
A court-appointed Receiver would be an expensive necessity for an association without board volunteers. Therefore, it is a good idea to consider serving on your board and to express appreciation for current board members. These volunteers are not only giving their time, but they are also saving the association money! Remember, community association board members are not paid, not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless.
